rift free downloadRift Free Download

Rift is currently offering a free download for a 7 day trial.

I tried it, well it’s free so there’s nothing to loose.

It’s a good, solid game. Very polished, huge lands, lots to do. Everything you would expect from an MMO and very well put together. Quests, races, locations, crafting, raids, battlegrounds and so on.

Try the Rift Free Download and See if you agree:

Its a very well put together game, but there are two main downsides

No back story or lore.

I loved Everquest artwork, atmosphere, story lines, races and so forth and didn’t realise how much it mattered to a game until they are not there. Rift has clickable points in the game where you can learn about its lore but who cares? Guardian or Defiant? It doesn’t matter. Which ever you pick the game feels the same.

Unique class system

The ability to change your class roles is a great strength and weakness. It’s fun to be able to switch, between say a damage dealing healer or play a healing role, but there is also no need to start a new character. You don’t need new equipment or to build your levels again, you simply switch to a role with the same character. Leveling will be quick and easy but that means there is little to do one you have leveled and few people in the lower level areas. It’s fun for the player but a bad idea for the longevity of the game.

Don’t get me wrong its a beautiful game and very well made and has it’s great points. Will I be buying it?

No.

It’s free to try and it you want to continue cheap to buy. But it feels as if it has finished. Very few players around, at peak times I only found a good raid group once when the rifts opened. It has no feeling and there is little incentive to return.

So Star Wars TOR here I come!

Rift or TOR?

If you have experienced the Rift Free Download 7 day trial please let us know if you are going to buy the game or leave for something else?
